Want To Know How To Increase Memory Power? Follow These Suggestions.

Article by Trevor Johnson

Memories are one of the most important tools a person can have. With them we can remember important facts, keep in mind what we are planning on doing next, and look back fondly on past events. Memory is essential to functioning well, so what can someone do if they start having memory problems? The following suggestions show how to increase memory power.

1. Eat Certain Foods, but Not Others

Certain foods are much better for memory power than others. Fish is one food commonly eaten to increase memory. Dark chocolate, fruit, oatmeal, vegetables, and dairy are also good for the brain. These foods are low on the glycemic index (GI), which means that they do not raise blood sugar too quickly like sugar can.

Other foods and drinks are just plain bad for memory. These include foods high on the GI. Alcohol, sodas, sugars, and white bread are examples of these types of food. While okay in moderation, a diet high in these foods and drinks can decrease memory. Thus, eating less of these can improve memory.

2. Exercise

Exercise increases blood flow, which can help the blood flow in the brain. This increased blood flow can increase mind function. Thus, if you stay active, your brain can stay active too.

3. Keep your Brain Active

Working with brain-teasers such as puzzle video games and crossword puzzles can help increase your memory. The more you think and try to figure things out, the easier it will become. The proof of this lies in the fact that those who consistently work on puzzles like these get better at them over time.

4. Take Supplements

One supplement for memory is omega-3 fatty acids. These boost brain function, focus, and brain cell communication. Fish or flax seed oil, which contain these acids. They can be taken in supplements, and are also found in fish, which should be eaten at least a couple types a week. Other supplements that help brain function include ginko biloba, sage oil, and folic acid.

5. Get Rest and Relax

Sleep recharges your whole body for the next day. If you do not get enough sleep, your brain cannot function properly. Rest in general can help, and so can breathing exercises and meditation.
